As a County Council Member Lehman has previously chaired the Transportation, Housing and the Environment Committee and pursued her commitment to the environment and good government through county and state legislation. She is a champion of a strong public education system. A longtime civic activist, Council Member Lehman previously worked as a legislative aide in Annapolis, and as District 1 education liaison.  A former journalist, Lehman covered Congress.

Lehman is a graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland College Park (1987). She is a member of St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church in Laurel, Maryland. She lives in Laurel with her husband and four children.
