Sydney J. Harrison was elected to his first four-year term on the Prince George’s County Council in the November 2018 General Election. A lifelong resident of his community, Council Member Harrison represents District 9 and has been appointed to chair the Education and Workforce Development Committee and is a member of the Health, Human Services and Public Safety Committee. Prior to serving on the Prince George's County Council, Harrison was elected in the November 2014 General Election to serve as Clerk of the Circuit Court for Prince George's County. As Clerk of the Circuit Court, Harrison managed and led a multifaceted team, maintaining case files of four divisions within the Clerk's Office: Civil, Criminal, Juvenile and Land Records. Additionally, Harrison was responsible for overseeing the County's Juror Program and the Notary Public Commission; issuing business and marriage licenses; and receiving and processing passport applications. Council Member Harrison is also the former Vice Chair of the Maryland Clerk's Association and member of the Democratic Central Committee- 27th Legislative District. As a former Prince George's County small business owner and former real estate professional, Council Member Harrison is active in the community, serving and supporting the nonprofit sector, and conducting missionary work around the world, while raising awareness for victims of domestic violence and foster care children. He is passionate about pride, safety, service and unity in the community; broadening and diversifying economic development; education activities; and resources for youth, seniors, Veterans and all District 9 neighbors. Council Member Sydney Harrison is a faithful member of Union Bethel AME Church in Brandywine. One of Council Member Harrison’s greatest accomplishments is being the proud father of his son Jerrell, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and graduate of High Point University.
