The Prince George’s County Council approved the FY 2024 County Budget on Thursday, May 25, 2023. Our thanks to residents and stakeholders for your input, which is essential to the budget process, especially as Council Members worked to ensure that your priorities were reflected in the new spending plan. Given the economic climate that communities across our nation, including Prince George’s County, are grappling with, it’s also important to note that some very tough decisions had to be made.
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY ADOPTS $5.4 BILLION FY 2024 COUNTY BUDGET
The Prince George's County Council, convening on Thursday, May 25, 2023, adopted a balanced $5.4 billion Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2024.
The adopted General Fund totals $4.5 billion, with the largest portion of General Funds, nearly $2.8 billion or 62%, directly supporting the Board of Education for Prince George’s County Public Schools. Nearly 20% of General Funds support public safety, and the remaining 18% supports the rest of County Government operations.
The County's new spending plan takes effect with the Fiscal Year that begins July 1, 2024.

The Spending Affordability Committee makes recommendations to the County Executive, the County Council and the Office of Management and Budget concerning spending affordability and ways to improve the County's budgetary procedures and policies. The committee is comprised of five (5) members, three appointed by the County Executive and two appointed by the County Council; the Chief Administrative Officer and Council Administrator serve as ex-officio members. The preliminary report is submitted to the County Executive and County Council by October 1. The committee’s final report is submitted by January.
Prince George’s and Montgomery County lawmakers, convening for the annual Bi-County Budget meeting at WSSC Headquarters on Thursday, May 11, 2023, unanimously adopted the FY 24 budgets for WSSC Water; and the bi-county portion and Central Administrative Services budgets for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and the Washington Suburban Transit Commission (WSTC). The Fiscal Year 2024 Bi-County budgets are effective July 1, 2023.
