COUNCIL CONVENES FOR FINAL HYBRID SESSION PRIOR TO AUGUST RECESS; HOLDS PUBLIC HEARINGS; ADOPTS CLIMATE ACTION PLAN, AND BOWIE MITCHELLVILLE & VICINITY SECTIONAL MAP AMENDMENT
The Prince George’s County Council convened a hybrid session on Tuesday, July 12th, in its final regular session before the August Recess. During Tuesday’s session, the Council considered and adopted several legislative measures, including the Prince George’s County Climate Action Plan and legislation initiating the Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Sectional Map Amendment.
Prince George’s County Council Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, noted the critical work taking place, and recognized his Council colleagues, as well as staff, for their diligence and support of the Council’s commitment to effectively address legislative matters impacting residents.
During Tuesday’s session, the Council adopted the following measures:
- CR-032-2022, legislation adopting the Prince George’s County Climate Action Commission’s Climate Action Plan for Prince George’s County. The measure establishes a County-wide emissions reduction goal; creates an Executive Task Force to develop, execute, measure, and update the County’s Climate Policy on an ongoing basis; and provides for status briefings to the County Council on at least an annual
- CR-059-2022, legislation endorsing the 2022 Prince George’s County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategic Action Plan and adopting the economic actions and strategies set forth.
- CR-087-2022, legislation observing and recognizing the month of July 2022 as Parks and Recreation Month in Prince George’s County.
- CR-088-2022, a Council Resolution concerning the listing of local questions on the 2022 ballot.
In other matters, the Council unanimously adopted CR-089-2022, legislation initiating a new Sectional Map Amendment (SMA) to comprehensively rezone land and implement the approved land use and development policies approved in the 2022 Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan. The SMA solely applies to properties within the 2022 Approved Bowie-Mitchellville and Vicinity Master Plan boundary.
The County Council is currently in August recess and scheduled to reconvene in September, unless an emergency meeting is needed during recess.
