As a member of the Prince George’s County Council, I am firmly committed to the public safety of our citizens, especially the residents I represent in Bowie, including Bowie State University, and throughout the communities of District 4.
News that two people were shot and injured during on-campus weekend violence that interrupted the university’s homecoming celebration, a special time for students, alumni and the surrounding community to connect and experience the joy of tradition, is sad and disturbing.
I commend the leadership and joint efforts of Bowie State University President Aminta Breaux and law enforcement to address safety concerns in advance of homecoming events, and the swift and coordinated response of law enforcement to this incident.
Law enforcement is conducting a full investigation of this matter. Anyone with information or social media video related to this case is asked to call the Bowie State Police tips line at 301-860-4688.
I encourage our community to join me in prayer for all affected, especially for the campus community.
