Council Chair Jolene Ivey Issues Statement on the Passing of Former Council Administrator Samuel E. Wynkoop, Jr.
The Prince George’s County Council mourns the loss of lifelong Prince Georgian, Samuel E. Wynkoop, Jr., who served this elected body as Council Administrator from 1979 – 1988, nine years of his nearly 20-year career with the Prince George’s County Government.
We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones, especially his college sweetheart and beloved wife of 54 years, Sunday, their children Daniel and Carrie, and grandchildren Jaric, Samantha, Addison and Olivia. You are in our thoughts and prayers, especially now.
Sam first came to Prince George’s County Government as an intern in his master’s program at Catholic University , and after assuming various posts in the County, was appointed Council Administrator.
The former top aide to the then nine-member Council was extraordinarily dedicated to Council Members, the Legislative Branch staff, and County residents, successfully navigating his essential role in the history, growth and development of this legislative body.
As we remember his legacy of committed service, effective management and professional expertise, Samuel Wynkoop merits the sincere gratitude of this body.
We wish comfort for his family and loved ones. Sam will be greatly missed.
