CB-37-2019 Aims to Increase Food Truck Operations
The Prince George’s County Council, during session on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, adopted Council Bill 37-2019, legislation reducing and eliminating certain food truck licensing fees.
CB-37-2019 is one of several Council Bills introduced by County Council Members Jolene Ivey (D) – District 5 and Dannielle Glaros (D) – District 3, to encourage and enable food trucks to operate easily and profitably in Prince George’s County.
Council Member Ivey says facilitating the evolving food truck culture supports a growing, thriving Prince George’s County.
“Food trucks enhance communities by adding interest and variety to our neighborhoods,” said Council Member Ivey. “Historically, it was difficult for legitimate and licensed food trucks to operate easily and profitably in the County, and we are changing that. We want to encourage opportunities for economic growth and aspiring entrepreneurs in Prince George’s County, and supporting food trucks is a step forward in that direction.”
CB-37-2019 eliminates the current license application fees of $500 for a food truck hub operating less than 60 days and the fee for $3500 if the hub is operating more than 60 days a year. The legislation also reduces the technical assistance fee to $35 and changes the Fire Department per hour rate to a flat fee.
Additional Food Truck Legislation recently adopted by the Council includes CR-73-2019, a Resolution delegating authority to incorporated municipalities to regulate food trucks within their jurisdiction; CR-67-2019 a Resolution encouraging the implementation of a Food Truck Healthy Options Certification Program; CR-65-2019, a Resolution allowing the operation of food trucks throughout all Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission facilities; CR-68-2019, a Resolution authorizing the creation of a Food Truck Hub in Downtown Upper Marlboro; and CR-20-2019, a Resolution authorizing the creation of a Food Truck Hub at Streetcar 82 Brewing Company in the City of Hyattsville.
