CHAIR DAVIS ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING POTENTIAL HATE-RELATED HOMICIDE OF BOWIE
STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT ON UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND CAMPUS
The entire County Council offers
our prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Lt. Richard Collins III, a
Bowie State University student who was killed in a violent attack on the campus
of the University of Maryland this weekend.
Lt. Richard Collins III, planned
to graduate from Bowie State University on Tuesday.
Law enforcement at every level is
involved, including the FBI, which is investigating this heinous murder as a
potential hate crime.
Our entire Prince George’s County
community, while deeply shocked and saddened by this senseless act, must fully
embrace the strength of our diversity and stand united against every form of
hate and violence.
As an officer in the United
States Army Lt. Collins dedicated his life to ensuring the safety of all our
citizens and protecting this nation from her enemies, both foreign and
domestic.
Law enforcement is conducting a
full investigation of this matter to ensure justice is served.
