[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL CHAIR TODD M. TURNER RESPONDS TO RESIGNATION OF POLICE CHIEF HANK STAWINSKI

STATEMENT - COUNCIL CHAIR TODD M. TURNER RESPONDS TO RESIGNATION OF POLICE CHIEF HANK STAWINSKI; APPOINTMENT OF INTERIM POLICE CHIEF

The Prince George’s County Council respects the decision of County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and will work with her and her executive team, as a nationwide search is conducted for a new Chief of Police.

Public safety is always a top priority for the Council. We thank former Police Chief Hank Stawinski for his service to the County and welcome the continued service of Interim Police Chief Hector Velez.

While crime continues to drop within the County, it is clear we still have work to do to transform our police department, and to better serve our community.

The Council believes it is important for the next Prince George’s County Police Chief to continue to build trust in the community, and improve relationships, accountability and inclusiveness.
