Rent Stabilization - CB-055-2024

During the pandemic there was a rent freeze in the County, linked to the declared state of emergency. The rent freeze was scheduled to expire when the pandemic state of emergency ended but was temporarily extended by the Council while a permanent solution could be researched and written.

As a result, the County Council passed the rent cap bill that I sponsored that caps rent of certain buildings at the rate of inflation (CPI-U) plus 3%, with a cap of 6% annually. The rent is capped at 4.5% annually for seniors living in a senior building.
