Following the resignation of At-Large Council Member Mel Franklin on June 14, 2024, Council will set dates for a special primary and special general election to fill the vacancy.
Pursuant to County Charter Section 309, a special election must be held to fill a vacancy on the Council occurring within the first three years of a term. Section 2-104 of the County Code provides that when there is a vacancy in the office of a Council Member during the first three years of a term, the Council, within seven business days, shall adopt a Resolution directing that a special primary election and a special general election, by the registered voters of the Council District concerned, be held to fill the vacancy. In this case, the elections will be countywide and a Resolution setting the dates will be adopted on or before June 26, 2024.
