Council Member Wala Blegay to Host Environmental Roundtable Discussion with Industry Experts, Residents, and StakeholdersBlegay Seeks to Sponsor an Environmental Package of Bills this Council Session
Prince George’s County Council Member Wala Blegay, Esq. (District 6), will bring together industry experts, residents, and interested stakeholders for an Environmental Roundtable Discussion on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. to help shape environmental policy in Prince George’s County. The roundtable discussion will be held at Carpenters District Local 197, 8500 Pennsylvania Ave. in Upper Marlboro.
Council Member Blegay says public input will help to inform her efforts to develop a legislative package of environmental measures this year and create policies that prioritize sustainable practices, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and support the County’s Climate Action Plan goals and recommendations.
Among her proposals is legislation requiring charging infrastructure and electric vehicle charging station spaces at newly constructed commercial retail developments, office buildings, and multi-unit dwellings in residential areas.
Council Member Blegay says effectively addressing environmental issues, particularly climate change and its impact, requires a collaborative community approach.
“Climate change is a reality, and we are beginning to feel its impact. Extreme weather conditions are expected to worsen over time which will likely result in record-breaking temperatures and flooding on our highways and in our homes. As concerned residents and elected officials, it is our responsibility to do all we can to protect the environment and employ energy-efficient policies that mitigate climate change.”
