Event Features Esteemed Keynote Speaker Rita Caras from Filipinos of Prince George’s County
Prince George’s County Council Member Wanika Fisher (District 2) and Council Chair Jolene Ivey (District 5) are pleased to announce “In Full Bloom,” a celebration and engagement event featuring keynote speaker Rita Caras from the organization Filipinos of Prince George’s County. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Hyattsville Library.
The celebration promises to be an evening of learning, enjoyment, and cultural appreciation, allowing community members to come together and celebrate the vibrant heritage of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. It will feature a variety of performances and activities, including skate mobile, face painting, various food trucks, and a phenomenal cultural dance performance to provide attendees a true Asian American cultural experience.
Keynote speaker Rita Caras, co-author of “Images of America: Filipinos in Washington, DC” and a founding member of the DMV Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS), will deliver a speech on the history and contributions of Filipino Americans in Prince George’s County.
Council Member Wanika Fisher, the first Asian American to serve on the Prince George’s County Council, represents District 2, covering areas including Lewisdale, Adelphi, and Langley Park. She has a proven track record of advocating for legislation around affordable housing, the environment, smart growth, and minority businesses.
Council Member Fisher will be joined by Council Chair Jolene Ivey to host the celebration, and they encourage all residents to attend this free event. Registration is encouraged, but not required. Participants may register HERE
