In recognition of World Hunger Day, on Wednesday, May 28, Prince George’s County Council Chair Edward Burroughs will partner with nonprofit Passion and Compassion to distribute fresh produce to hundreds of community members in need. This drive-thru and walk-up food distribution event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 5757 Temple Hill Road, Temple Hills, MD 20748.
Chair Burroughs and a team of volunteers will hand out between 600 and 1,000 bags of fresh produce.
"We already had a high rate of food insecurity in our county, and unfortunately, federal layoffs mean even more people are left struggling to pay their bills and provide for their families,” Chair Burroughs said. “I want people to know that there’s no shame in seeking assistance, even if it’s the first time you’ve needed it.”
Passion and Compassion is based in Riverdale, MD. Last year, the nonprofit distributed more than 2.9 million pounds of produce and 3 million meals throughout Prince George’s County.
