Chair Burroughs Partnering with Strategic Housing Solutions to Prevent Foreclosures

Partnership to host workshop on Thursday, August 28

In response to a growing need for foreclosure assistance in Prince George’s County, Council Chair Edward Burroughs III (District 8) is partnering with Strategic Housing Solutions of Prince George’s County to help keep more Prince Georgians in their homes. This alliance between the Council Chair and a leading non-profit in the field will provide residents with valuable information, resources, and support as they face difficult foreclosure proceedings, in addition to helping keep at-risk homeowners out of foreclosure.

Prince George’s County led the state in foreclosure filings in the first quarter of 2025 with 836 (25.4% of the state total). In July of 2025, Maryland ranked third highest in the country in foreclosure filings, with one in every 2,566 homes impacted, according to ATTOM. In District 8, Oxon Hill, Temple Hills, and Fort Washington are all considered “very high” or “severe” hot spots for foreclosure, according to the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

“Those figures are nothing short of alarming,” said Chair Burroughs. “With our county feeling the brunt of the Trump administration’s federal workforce reduction, there is real concern that more Prince Georgians will be in danger of losing their homes. I am partnering with Strategic Housing Solutions to protect, educate, and support all of our District 8 residents.”

Through this partnership, residents will have access to hands-on assistance from            Strategic Housing Solutions. Liaisons will attend foreclosure mediations to ensure all required documents are submitted on time and to explore all available options to prevent foreclosure. They will also review all relevant documents, including those obtained through servicer information requests, to identify potential legal defenses.

Additionally, Foreclosure Prevention Workshops will be a cornerstone of the partnership, allowing District 8 residents to meet in-person with skilled liaisons to get the help they need and learn valuable skills. Attendees will be educated on the foreclosure process and their rights and gain insight into budgeting and managing debt.

There will be a workshop on Thursday, August 28 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Southern Regional Technology and Recreation Complex, 7007 Bock Road, Fort Washington, MD 20744.

Members of the media are invited, and Chair Burroughs is also available for live or taped interviews any time prior to Thursday’s event to help get the word out to the community about the workshop or the program as a whole.

Residents can register to attend Thursday’s workshop here.
