Event Will Provide Free School Supplies and Haircuts/Braiding for District 5 Students
On Saturday, August 23, from 11 AM to 3 PM, the nonprofit Solid Foundation, Inc. will host its inaugural Thrive in 5: Fades and Braids Back-to-School Block Party, an event sponsored by Council Members Shayla Adams-Stafford (District 5), Jolene Ivey (At-Large), and Calvin Hawkins (At-Large). It will take place at the Kentland Community Center, 2413 Pinebrook Ave. in Landover.
Hundreds of District 5 students are expected to attend the sold-out block party to receive free school supplies, haircuts, and hair braiding. There will also be free food, games, prizes, and live entertainment.
The event will bring together families, businesses, and community leaders to celebrate students and kick off the 2025-2026 school year!
