Council Member Krystal Oriadha Launches #NoMore Domestic Violence Campaign and Resource Guide

Council News Posted on September 27, 2024

Campaign aims to spread awareness about domestic violence, create legislation to provide lifesaving resources

Prince George’s County Council Member Krystal Oriadha (District 7) is launching the 2024 #NoMore Domestic Violence campaign. The initiative is a collaboration with county agencies and organizations aiming to raise awareness, provide resources, change policy, and strengthen community support for survivors of domestic violence. Council Member Oriadha will hold a press conference with Delegate Ashanti Martinez (MD-22) on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the Wayne K. Curry building to launch the campaign and announce statewide legislation supporting domestic violence survivors.

Council Member Oriadha’s #NoMore campaign highlights the need to address domestic violence through a multi-agency approach, bringing together law enforcement and community organizations to support survivors and hold abusers accountable.

In partnership with Del. Martinez, Council Member Oriadha’s proposed “Healing Scars Act” aims to provide necessary resources for survivors, mandating health insurance providers cover cosmetic surgery procedures and mental health services stemming from domestic violence. The legislation would also work to amend the Victims of Crime Act to include funding for cosmetic procedures for domestic violence victims who do not have insurance.

The Council Member hopes to build the confidence of survivors while helping to fund medical procedures, crisis intervention, counseling, emergency transportation to court, temporary housing, and criminal justice support. As a survivor herself, Council Member Oriadha’s personal experience fuels her commitment to this campaign.

“Domestic violence is not just a statistic for me: it’s a reality that many of us have lived through,” said Council Member Oriadha. “This campaign is about standing in solidarity with survivors and saying ‘No more.’ No more silence, no more suffering alone, and no more excuses.”
