Council Member Ivey to Host Food Distribution Event in Chillum

Council News Posted on October 17, 2025

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 18, At-Large Council Member Jolene Ivey is partnering with The Storehouse to host a free grocery box distribution event from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Rollingcrest–Chillum Community Center, 6120 Sargent Road, Chillum, MD.

The food giveaway aims to address the growing food insecurity in the county, due in part to the ongoing federal government shutdown, higher costs, and growing uncertainties from the Trump administration. People wishing to receive a grocery box are required to pre-register here.

Council Member Ivey has also compiled a list of resources available to those impacted by the federal government shutdown, available here.

“We have known that the county’s food insecurity was already growing and this federal government shutdown, a crisis that was entirely avoidable, is making matters worse,” said Council Member Ivey. “I hope that this food distribution can provide a little relief during this difficult time, and want to thank Mel Johnson of The Storehouse for being such a huge resource for our neighbors.”
