A Collaboration with C&J Migrant Solutions Foundation
Council Member Wala Blegay (At-Large) is announcing the launch of the Community Defense Against ICE Program, a collaborative initiative developed in partnership with C&J Migrant Solutions Foundation to provide advocacy, preparedness resources, and direct community-based support for individuals and families facing immigration enforcement challenges.
The Community Defense Against ICE Program is designed to assist residents who have experienced intimidation or trauma, or who are currently navigating deportation hearings, by connecting them to trusted legal referrals, culturally responsive support networks, and essential community resources. An initial $10,000 funding commitment has been allocated to support outreach, coordination, and direct assistance services for impacted families.
“Community Defense Against ICE is about standing firmly for dignity, safety, and fairness,” said Council Member Blegay. “Through collaboration with trusted organizations, we are strengthening our ability to protect families and ensure they are not left to navigate these challenges alone.”
Candace Boykins, President and CEO of C&J Migrant Solutions Foundation, emphasized the importance of collective action and preparedness. “Community defense is strongest when organizations work together to provide clear information, preparedness, and culturally responsive support,” she said. “C&J Migrant Solutions Foundation is proud to stand alongside Council Member Blegay to help families understand their rights and access trusted resources before and when emergencies arise.”
