Prince George’s County Council Vice Chair Deni Taveras (District 2) and Council Member Dannielle Glaros (District 3) congratulate the recipients of Purple Line Business Assistance Grant Funding, awarded to businesses adversely impacted by Purple Line construction, COVID-19, or both.
These government funded grants were provided by FSC First, founded in 1978 in Prince George’s County to serve small businesses through the implementation of a specialized financial program. The grant program awarded a total of $600,000 to businesses in the County impacted by Purple Line construction. During the first round of funding, 55 grants were awarded, providing a total of $255,000 in support to the business communities of District 2 and District 3.
Vice Chair Taveras says this funding offers a much-needed boost to the local economy.
“Many of the businesses along the planned Purple Line corridor were struggling even before the pandemic because of the construction, and the impact of COVID-19 compounded the challenges. This financial boost goes a long way to sustain our business community along the Purple Line route, through construction and unprecedented times, so they can continue to be part of progress in our County. On behalf of the residents I serve, I thank FSC First, my Council colleagues, County partners and all who supported this important initiative.”
District 3 Council Member Danielle Glaros noted the collaborative efforts to support businesses impacted by Purple Line construction.
"I’m incredibly grateful to FSC First and our many partners, including the Purple Line Corridor Coalition, working to ensure that this investment in public transit truly creates opportunity for those who work and live along the corridor today, including the locally-owned minority businesses which have been hit hard by construction and COVID.”
Businesses located in District 2, the area most impacted by Purple Line construction, received 43 grant awards from FSC First. District 3 businesses received 12 grants.
FSC First provides creative and innovative financing solutions to grow and sustain the local economy, working directly with small businesses, individuals, and organizations to help clients understand the best path for their investments utilizing a distinct approach for allocating non-traditional financing.
