[ARCHIVED] COUNTY COUNCIL CONVENES VIRTUAL 2022 ANNUAL RETREAT “ACCOUNTABILITY AND PROGRESS”

Agenda - County Budget, Fiscal Outlook, Economic Development, Job Creation, Retention and Recovery

The Prince George’s County Council convened virtually on Monday, March 7, 2022, for its Annual Retreat.  The retreat agenda for “Accountability and Progress,” focused on fiscal and economic development matters, and provided guidance around ethics, ex parte communications, and political activity concerns.

Council Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, says the Council is working to meet the challenges of a post-pandemic economic recovery.

“The annual retreat provides critical updates and an important opportunity for Council Members to engage in a productive dialogue on behalf of our residents. As the County emerges from two very challenging years resulting from the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, we are careful to take account of our unique journey, note our progress, and chart the County’s best path forward.  The Council retreat helps us to achieve this crucial goal.”

County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks provided opening remarks and thanked the County Council for its collaboration and partnership.

“For me and for this Council, the past two years have presented an opportunity to govern and lead through unexpected traumatic situations. COVID-19 hit our County hard and changed so much about our daily lives, but through those uncertain times, and because we were able to work together for the good of Prince Georgians, I know that better days are here, and we have begun to turn a corner.”

The retreat session included a briefing on the County Budget and the County’s fiscal outlook, led by Office of Management and Budget Director, Stanley Earley.  Also contributing to this presentation were Deputy Director Finance, Linda Allen, and Chair, Spending Affordability Committee, Robert Hagans.

Council Members received a multi-agency panel briefing on County Business Sustainability, Economic Incentives, and Jobs Retention and Recovery, presented by leadership from the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation; FSC First; Employ Prince George's; Prince George's Chamber of Commerce; and Greater Prince George's Business Roundtable.

The day-long retreat concluded with an overview of Ethics, Ex Parte Communications and Political Activity limitations delivered by the Council’s Legislative Officers.
