[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL MEMBER DANNIELLE GLAROS FOCUSES ON PEDESTRIAN AND DRIVER SAFETY

ENCOURAGES DISTRICT 3 RESIDENTS TO ATTEND MDOT COMMUNITY MEETING
MDOT State Highway Administration to Discuss MD-410 Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project – October 18

Prince George’s County Council Vice Chair Dannielle Glaros (D) - District 3, in a continued effort to improve pedestrian, cyclist and driver safety along MD-410, encourages residents to attend the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT/SHA) Community Meeting focusing on the Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project along MD410. The community meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at St. Bernard’s Church, 5700 St. Bernard Drive in Riverdale.

Vice Chair Glaros shares the concerns of District 3 residents who worry about the effects of speed and distracted driving along East-West Highway.

“As the County continues to grow and thrive, we have more motorists, pedestrians and cyclist sharing the roadways,” said Vice Chair Glaros. “We want to make sure that every resident is able to travel safely and I am extremely pleased that the State Highway Administration is presenting a plan to the community to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along MD-410. I strongly encourage District 3 residents to attend the community meeting and join the discussion.”

Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Manager, Karyn McAlister, will also be on hand to provide information and answer residents’ questions.

Prior to the community meeting at 5:00 p.m., Council Member Glaros and District 3 community members will participate in the Street Smart Safety Campaign at the intersection of MD-410 and Riverdale Road. Sponsored by the Transportation Planning Board and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, the Street Smart Safety Campaign is aimed at reducing the number of pedestrian and cyclist injuries and deaths in the Metropolitan Washington Region.
