[ARCHIVED] District 4 Council Member Ingrid Watson Hosts Reusable Bag Giveaway Events

As County Eliminates Single-Use Plastic Bags, Council Member to Distribute Sustainable Alternative

Prince George’s County Council Member Ingrid Watson will host three Reusable Bag Giveaway Events throughout District 4 to promote sustainability and reduce waste. The giveaway events are scheduled to take place in the communities of Bowie, Greenbelt, and Glenn Dale on the following dates:

  • Bowie, Friday, February 23 – City of Bowie City Hall, 15901 Fred Robinson Way
  • Greenbelt, Friday, March 1 – City of Greenbelt Municipal Building, 25 Crescent Road
  • Glenn Dale, Friday, March 8 – Glenn Dale Community Center, 11901 Glenn Dale Boulevard

Residents may pick up their complimentary reusable bag(s) from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. at any giveaway location.

Council Member Watson encourages residents who need reusable bags to visit one of the giveaway events.

“Our retail stores no longer provide plastic bags, and there are residents who may need help adjusting to this new normal,” said Council Member Watson. “I want to make the transition to reusable bags easier by providing a sustainable alternative. The reusable bag distribution event offers residents the opportunity to secure high-quality eco-friendly bags designed to withstand daily use – free of charge. This is our way of supporting the community and inviting others to join us in our mission to create a cleaner, greener District 4.”

CB-032-2023Better Bag Bill legislation approved by the Council last year, incentivizes the use of reusable bags by prohibiting single-use plastic carryout bags and requiring retailers to charge at least 10 cents per bag. The measure went into effect on January 1, 2024.
