[ARCHIVED] COUNTY COUNCIL ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS OF FY 2021 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE GRANT AWARDS

$500,000 Total Grants Awarded to 9 Nonprofits Targeting Domestic Violence

The Prince George’s County Council, in an initiative combatting domestic violence and related abuse in the County, has announced a list of nine (9) nonprofit recipients of the Council’s FY 2021 Domestic Violence Grants on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

The Council appropriated $500,000 in FY 2021, for its fifth consecutive round of grant funding to support prevention activities and programs serving Housing, Workforce Development, Counseling/Mental Health Services, or Advocacy/Legal Services needs of County residents who are victims of domestic violence and other forms of related abuse.  To date, the Council has awarded $2.5 million in Domestic Violence Grants.

Council Chair Todd M. Turner (D) - District 4, says this funding offers a vital resource for health and human service nonprofits providing critical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Domestic violence is a serious threat to the health and safety of our residents and communities, and the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened this already pervasive issue.   With this new round of grant funding, the Council reaffirms its commitment to stem the tide of domestic violence in Prince George’s County.  These resources continue the Council’s ongoing Focused Collaboration Grant initiative designed to strengthen communities, support survivors and their families, and build capacity for organizations assisting residents and families to live free from the threat of violence. ”
