[ARCHIVED] COMPREHENSIVE HOUSING STRATEGY AD HOC SUBCOMMITTEE TO CONVENE FOR THE FIRST TIME JUNE 15

Subcommittee to Build Consensus around Housing Policies; Charged with Developing a Comprehensive Housing Strategy for Prince George’s County

The Prince George’s County Council Comprehensive Housing Strategy Ad Hoc Subcommittee will convene for the first time on Wednesday, June 15, at 1:30 p.m., in Committee Hearing Room 2027, 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

The Comprehensive Housing Strategy Ad Hoc Subcommittee, established by Council Resolution 13-2016, will assess current and future housing needs; consider barriers to home ownership and affordability; examine regional realities, existing strategies and unique local housing and fiscal challenges in the County. The subcommittee will build consensus around housing policies considering the County, State and regional economies; the County’s transportation network; and the County’s position in the future of the Greater Washington-Baltimore region.

Council Chair Derrick L. Davis (D) – District 6, who will chair the work group, says a balanced, comprehensive approach to addressing the County’s diverse housing needs is long overdue.

“Prince George’s County is positioned to become an economic powerhouse in this region and the changing population, growth trends, and housing market conditions require a comprehensive housing strategy that considers all income levels, populations and demographics,” said Chair Davis. “Everyone deserves a place to live that meets their housing needs.”

The Comprehensive Housing Strategy Ad Hoc Subcommittee will be comprised of five members including the Chair and one member of the Council’s Transportation, Housing and Environment (THE) Committee, the Chair and one member of the Planning Zoning and Economic Development Committee, and the Chair of the Council. Chairs of the respective committees shall serve as co-chairs of the Ad Hoc Subcommittee.

The workgroup will present a preliminary report to the Council on or before December 1, 2016, and a final report on or before July 1, 2017.
