[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT ON PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY REDISTRICTING COMMISSION PLAN AND REPORT

Virtual Public Hearing – Tuesday, September 28th

The Prince George’s County Council will conduct a virtual public hearing on the Prince George’s County Redistricting Commission Plan and Report Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at 5:00 p.m.

The 2021 Prince George’s County Redistricting Commission, appointed by the adoption of CR-06-2021 in January, was charged with preparing the plan and report explaining proposed boundary changes for the County’s nine (9) existing Council districts, based on 2020 census data.

The plan and report were transmitted to the County Council on September 1, 2021, and the Redistricting Commission provided a briefing to the Council during session on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.  To watch the briefing click HERE.

Council Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, encourages residents to review the Redistricting Commission Plan and Report, and sign up to share their comments during the September 28th public hearing.

“Council boundaries have a direct impact on residents and the surrounding community.  This public hearing is an important opportunity for Prince Georgians to shape the future of our County.  Public input really does play a role in how boundaries are drawn and how communities are represented at every level of government, so it is critically important to hear from our residents as this process moves forward.  We urge every resident to be informed and involved.”

The 2021 Prince George’s County Redistricting Commission was chaired by Tree of Life Christian Ministries Pastor, James J. Robinson. Commissioners include Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce President, David C. Harrington, and former Prince George’s Community College President, Dr. Charlene Mickens-Dukes.  Dr. Nathaniel Persily, James B. McClatchy Professor of Law, Stanford Law School, serves as consultant to the 2021 Redistricting Commission.
