[ARCHIVED] PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY COUNCIL TO COMMEMORATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Annual Black History Month Celebration – “Black America Speak Up”

In observance of Black History Month 2022, the Prince George’s County Council will host a virtual Black History Program, “Black America Speak Up,” on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.

Prince George’s County Council Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, and Vice Chair Sydney Harrison will provide opening and closing remarks respectively.  The program will feature musical selections by the Prince George’s County Choral Society.  Poetry and spoken word will also be offered by Creative Suitland artists, C. Alexandria-Bernard Thomas; Billye Keene Okera, Brenardo Taylor, and Sainey Ceesay.  The Reverend Dr. Gwendolyn E. Boyd of Ebenezer A.M.E. Church will provide the Invocation.

Council Chair Hawkins encourages residents to view the Council’s virtual Black History Month Celebration.

“I want to encourage residents to add the Council’s ‘Black America Speak Up’ event to their list of Black History activities this month. During this time, we will highlight some of Prince George’s County’s own history makers while honoring the contributions of African Americans who shaped our nation’s early history. I look forward to an inspiring event.”
