MEDIA ALERT

VICE CHAIR WALA BLEGAY, ESQ. TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ISSUING CALL FOR INCREASED NURSE AND SUPPORT STAFFING FOR HOSPITALS AND URGENT CARE FACILITIES

Legislation Urging State Standards for Nurse and Support Staffing Nears Final Vote

Prince George’s County Council Vice Chair Wala Blegay, Esq. (District 6) will hold a press conference at the Wayne K. Curry Administration Building (Tech Lounge) on Tuesday, May 2nd at 10:00 a.m. to encourage support for CR-013-2023, legislation urging the state of Maryland to ensure that all health care facilities provide the appropriate level of care and staffing for patients. The measure includes registered nurses, specialists, medical technicians, nursing assistants, environmental services, and dietary aides.

Vice Chair Blegay proposed CR-013-2023 in response to growing resident concerns around sufficient nurse and support staff in the County’s health care facilities. Under the proposed measure, the Board of Health would collect empirical data on nurse-patient ratios in the County and submit its findings to the County. The state of Maryland maintains authority to increase nurse-patient ratios.  In addition to providing the information to the County, study results would also be shared with state officials, with a formal request urging state action to impose a nurse/patient ratio using Prince George’s County as the example by the data collected.
