“Take Pride” Initiative Strengthens Commitment to Increasing Community Pride in District 2
Prince George’s County Council Member Deni Taveras (D) – District 2, will host the District 2 “Take Pride Festival and Community Award Ceremony” on Saturday, May 13, 2017, 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m. at Northwestern High School, 7000 Adelphi Road in Hyattsville, Maryland.
The Take Pride Festival and Community Award Ceremony is a part of Council Member Taveras’ “Take Pride in Our Community” initiative, which began in the fall of last year. The initiative, created to increase community pride in District 2 communities, calls on residents to join together and work towards safer and cleaner neighborhoods.
The festival portion of the day’s events will feature interactive children’s games; ‘Taste of the Gateways’ vendors; County information and resources; and fun for the entire family. The day will conclude with a special awards ceremony recognizing residents who have accepted the Take Pride Challenge with special “pride” projects in their neighborhoods, schools and businesses.
Council Member Taveras says community pride should be encouraged and celebrated. She is especially excited for the opportunity to honor Prince George’s County Teacher of the Year, Carolyn Marzke, of Ridgecrest Elementary School in District 2 during the event.
“This is going to be an exciting day as we bring together residents for a day of food, fun and special recognition for our District 2 neighbors, businesses, and friends who take special pride in our community,” said Council Member Taveras. “When residents take pride in their communities, quality of life improves, so we want to celebrate this important initiative and recognize those who have gone above and beyond to make their communities the very best they can be.”
The Take Pride Festival and Community Award Ceremony is co-sponsored by the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation, Primed for Business and Prince George’s County Public Schools.
