[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL ESTABLISHES 2017-2018 CHARTER REVIEW COMMISSION

Work Group to Conduct Study of County Charter and Make Appropriate Recommendations

The Prince George’s County Council, during session on Tuesday, June 20, adopted Council Resolution 55-2017, legislation establishing a 2017–2018 Charter Review Commission to undertake a comprehensive study of the County Charter and recommend appropriate changes.

The County Charter requires that the County Executive and County Council appoint, by Resolution, a Charter Review Commission every four years.

The 2017-2018 Charter Review Commission consists of seven citizens, three appointed by the County Executive and three appointed by the County Council. A Chairperson is jointly agreed upon by the County Executive and Council Chair.

The following seven citizens will serve on the 2017 – 2018 Charter Review Commission: Appointed by the County Council - Earl Adams, Jr., Esq., Dr. Jacqueline L. Brown, M.H. Jim Estepp; appointed by the County Executive - Rosie Allen-Herring, Thomas H. Graham, and Joseph R. Hamlin. Chairperson Camille A. Exum has been jointly appointed by the County Executive and Council Chair.

The 2017-2018 Charter Review Commissioners will also serve as members of the 2017-2018 Compensation Review Board.

The County Council sits as the District Council on zoning and land use policy, and as the Board of Health to govern and guide health policy. The County Council meets as a legislative body on Tuesdays in the Council Hearing Room on the first floor of the County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro.
