[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL ANNOUNCES FY 18 DOMESTIC VIOLENCE GRANT RECIPIENTS DURING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

Grant Program Seeks Community Solutions for Ending Domestic Violence in the County

The Prince George’s County Council, in an initiative combatting domestic violence and related abuse in the County, announced recipients of the Council’s FY 2018 Domestic Violence Grant funding during a proclamation ceremony recognizing October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

The Prince George’s County Council Domestic Violence Grant Program provides funding support to programs that provide housing, counseling or advocacy assistance to victims of domestic violence. This includes organizations whose programs and activities support prevention through a coordinated and collaborative community response to domestic violence in the County. To date, the Council has invested a million dollars in grant funding to fight domestic violence, including $500,000 in FY 2017 to 11 nonprofits. Seven nonprofits are receiving awards in this second round of domestic violence grant support.

Council Chair Davis noted the importance of working collaboratively to effectively address domestic violence following the announcement.

“Domestic violence remains a major challenge, but each new collaboration brings a rich and fresh perspective to this crucial dialogue, and provides support in very practical ways on the ground” said Chair Davis.  “This Council thanks every one of you for your work to strengthen families and save lives.  We are committed to evolve a quality network of services, focused on community solutions and partnerships to address the scourge of domestic violence in many parts of our County.”
