[ARCHIVED] COUNCILMEMBER HARRISON CELEBRATES REVITALIZATION IN DISTRICT 5 DURING GROUNDBREAKING FOR GLENARDEN 1

Former Glenarden Apartments Site to be Transformed into Vibrant Neighborhood of Rental Apartments and Homes for Families and Seniors

Prince George’s County Council Member Andrea C. Harrison (D) – District 5, joined Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, local and state officials, the Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County, SHABACH! Ministries, Pennrose Properties, LLC, B & W Solutions, and members of the District 5 community for the groundbreaking of Glenarden I, the first phase of the comprehensive master-planned redevelopment of Glenarden Apartments on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.

Council Member Harrison says Prince George’s County is replete with wonderful stories of community revitalization, and the story in the City of Glenarden is one that deserves to be told.

“I will never stop telling the remarkable story about the City of Glenarden and Prince George’s County," said Council Member Harrison. “Today, we begin a new era of growth for the City of Glenarden and for Prince George’s County. We are breaking ground on a new addition to this wonderful city, and even more of our residents will have an opportunity to realize the promise of the American Dream. In a sign of a thriving community, we are breathing new life into this land that it may flourish and grow strong roots. That is how we tell our story.”

The redevelopment plan for the new neighborhood was created with considerable local community input. Glenarden I will feature 114 affordable and market-rate apartment homes for families and seniors. The project will also feature townhouse-style buildings, senior apartments, and an approximately 5,900 SF community clubhouse. The second phase of Glenarden will add 55 units of affordable senior housing, rental apartment, two pools and additional open space. The final phases will include additional rental apartment homes and for-sale homeownership opportunities.
