[ARCHIVED] COUNCIL MEMBER DENI TAVERAS HOSTS NORTHERN GATEWAY SUMMER SOCCER CLINIC BACK-TO-SCHOOL CELEBRATION

COUNCIL MEMBER DENI TAVERAS HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL NORTHERN GATEWAY SUMMER SOCCER CLINIC
BACK-TO-SCHOOL CELEBRATION AND NORTHERN GATEWAY COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE LAUNCH

Partnership Event Features Sport Coaching and Family Fun; Encourages 2020 Census Participation

Prince George’s County Council Member Deni Taveras (D) – District 2, in partnership with the Prince George’s County Police Athletic League (PAL), Prince George’s County Memorial Library System, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, Northern Gateway CDC and other local organizations, will host the Northern Gateway Summer Soccer Clinic (NGSSC), Back-to-School Celebration, and Northern Gateway Complete Count Committee Launch on Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lane Manor (Field 2), located at 7601 West Park Drive, in Adelphi, Maryland.

The day’s event will feature a youth summer soccer clinic, free school supplies, arts and crafts activities, access to County resources, local food vendors, and fun for the entire family. Participants will also have a chance to register for a free youth soccer league this fall.

NGSSC, the Northern Gateway’s annual unity-driven event, provides an inclusive environment for youth to actively engage with their peers to learn new sports skills, boost soccer game performance, build self-esteem, and much more. NGSSC is a no-cost event for County families and open to children ages 5–14, of all genders and skill levels.

“I am proud to serve District 2 and offer our residents, families, and children opportunities to celebrate themselves and the strength of our community,” said Council Member Taveras. “NGSSC is a celebration of our County’s children, diversity, education, and partnerships; it is one of the many ways we collaborate to deliver fun, multicultural experiences for our children to unite and learn prior to the new school year.”

New this year is the launch of the Northern Gateway’s Complete Count Committee’s signature campaign, “Get Ready. Get Counted. Vote.,” to inspire and empower County residents to take an active role in preparing to get counted in the 2020 Census and registering to vote for the 2020 election.

“The Northern Gateway, while rich in physical and social attributes, is the hardest to count area in the County and still faces many vulnerabilities,” adds Council Member Taveras. “As community leaders, we must inform and engage our residents concerning the 2020 Census. Individuals need to know that regardless of their age and social, physical, economic, housing, or documentation status, they have a responsibility to be counted in order to receive the vital federal programs and resources they deserve and need for the next ten years. The Northern Gateway Community Development Corporation will serve as our lead partner in reaching the community in the upcoming months and ensuring that residents know they matter. We will maximize engagement with our families and children to raise awareness and prepare for a fair and inclusive 2020 Census.”
