[ARCHIVED] RE-ENTRY ADVISORY BOARD TO CONVENE FIRST MEETING JANUARY 15

Board to Address Re-Entry Programs and Services for Formerly Incarcerated Residents

The Prince George’s County Re-Entry Advisory Board, established by Council Resolution 49-2019, will convene for the first time on Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at the County Administration Building, Second Floor, Room 2027, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

The Re-Entry Advisory Board is charged with implementing a comprehensive re-entry program and re-entry services in the County to aid formerly incarcerated persons with acclimating back into society. The advisory board will evaluate and assess resources and services currently available, and identify ways to effectively implement programs addressing employment, housing, mental health and faith-based initiatives.

Prince George’s County Council Vice-Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II, who is chairing the Re-Entry Advisory Board, says connecting returning citizens with critical support services can help to reduce the high rate of recidivism in Prince George’s County.

“It is very important that we stem the tide of recidivism in Prince George’s County. The effective re-entry of persons transitioning from incarceration back into society fosters their positive rehabilitation and enables them to become productive citizens of our County which can benefit the entire community.”

January 15th agenda meeting items include remarks by Re-entry Advisory Board Chair, Council Vice-Chair Calvin S. Hawkins, II; an overview on board goals, roles and responsibilities; and a review of action items before the board.
