$500,000 Grant Program Supports Community Nonprofits Addressing Domestic Violence in the County
The Prince George’s County Council, in a continuing initiative to combat domestic violence and related abuse in the County, has announced its FY 2024 Domestic Violence Grant awardees.
The Council’s Domestic Violence Grant Program provides funding support to nonprofits servicing the housing, counseling, workforce development or advocacy needs of County residents impacted by domestic violence. This includes organizations whose programs and activities support prevention through a coordinated and collaborative community response to domestic violence in the County.
Council Chair Jolene Ivey, who hosts an annual domestic violence prevention event, and this year co-hosted this event focusing on teen dating violence prevention Congressman Glenn Ivey, stressed the importance of legislators working collaboratively with the nonprofit community to effectively address domestic violence in Prince George’s County.
“Collaboration between local government and our nonprofit community is paramount in addressing domestic violence because it brings together the strengths of both sectors to create a more holistic approach. There are crucial gaps in the support systems our government can provide, and nonprofits consistently partner with us to fill them. The Council’s grant funding ensures a more comprehensive and compassionate response to domestic violence, blending the expertise of government and nonprofits to create long-term positive change in the lives of survivors and their communities.”
Grant funds are available to nonprofit organizations through a review and evaluation process for all applicants. Nine nonprofits are receiving awards in the current round of domestic violence grant support.
