Resolution Sponsor, Council Member Deni Taveras says, “Prince George’s County’s strength is in its diversity.”
The Prince George’s County Council, during session on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, unanimously adopted Council Resolution CR-60-2019, legislation reaffirming support toward all people, respectful of the innate dignity of every person, and the reality of diversity in Prince George’s County.
Council Resolution CR-60-2019 reads, in part,” The urgency of this moment in our United States history calls us to stand against radicalized tactics of deportation and immoral expressions of racisms that are tearing families apart and seek to divide us as a county, state and nation. Prince George’s County will continue to be a beacon of justice and prosperity, not despite of, but because of its inclusivity and pluralistic community, where all people are treated with respect.”
Council Member Deni Taveras (D) – District 2, who introduced the resolution, says given the current crisis where immigrant neighbors face the threat of deportation, embracing unity in our communities is especially timely.
“I appreciate the support of my colleagues in the adoption of CR-60-2019. I am a strong advocate for our County’s immigrant population, and I reject the current administration’s immigration policies, and the announced enforcement scheduled to begin this weekend,” said Council Member Taveras. “It is crucial that residents are aware of the resources and information available to assist our immigrant neighbors who have lived, worked and contributed to our country and communities for years, and are now deeply troubled about potential deportation and family separation.”
